Writing to wish all the students taking part in this fantastic project good luck and enjoyment – as well as grabbing the most of this international collaboration for their future careers.

Kingston University London has been a front runner in setting up links to directly involve and benefit students in China working with our students at Kingston Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture. The cross disciplinary ‘think tank’ project for Shanghai Expo with Shanghai University College of Fine Art, then two years later the post-graduate Caoyang public art project (with the same partners). DreamLab, a huge challenge for 20 universites in China in 2009 /10 and now the EXPO LEGACY. This summer some Kingston students will also participate in the Shanghai Design Exchange Programme at the Europe China Design Centre.

So we welcome those at China Art Academy, Hangzhou – students and staff – taking part in the project with the Curating Contemporary Design students at Kingston to the project and look forward to a really great outcome at the British Pavilion at Expo in Shanghai this summer.

Just introducing myself to you all as an invited visiting tutor for this very exciting project. A bit of a brief background:

My name is Fleur Watson and I am currently based in Melbourne, Australia where I run an independent curatorial practice and creative studio entitled Something Together.
I am a graduate of the MA Curating Contemporary Design program at Kingston University (2007). I also currently hold the role as Senior Curator for the inaugural Asia Pacific Design Triennale which will take place in Brisbane, 4-10 October, 2010. Prior to this project, I held the role of Curator for the State of Design Festival in Melbourne for 2008 and 2009.

‘Architecture & Beauty’ (Wiley & Sons) which will be released next month in London.

I am very pleased to be invited to share your progress in this challenging project and look forward to contributing and sharing in your discovery as the concepts develop.
    Warm regards to all.

Today on BBC radio news they announced this morning that Virgin long haul flights had resumed. Our Expo project staff and student exchange is still at risk from the volcano but we hope all will be well. Next Thursday 10 of our UK students fly to Hangzhou and 2 Tutors from China Academy join us in Kingston.

Fingers crossed everyone that the volcano in Iceland will not cause any further disruptions.
